Overview

As Consultant Ophthalmologist with a Medical Retina focus, you will lead and develop retinal services across two sites, driving clinical excellence and patient outcomes. You will work within a multidisciplinary team to shape innovative care pathways and governance. This leadership role combines strategy, service improvement, and education to advance evidence-based practice. You will influence care delivery at scale while maintaining high-quality, patient-centred retina services.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop Medical Retina pathways across two sites
• Manage a broad range of retinal diseases, including diabetic eye disease
• Drive service transformation and innovative care models
• Contribute to clinical governance, teaching, and research
• Strengthen academic links and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams
• Lead workforce development and ongoing service improvement

Key requirements

• Full GMC Specialist Register (CCT / CESR)
• FRCOphth or equivalent
• Minimum 3 years’ experience at Consultant level
• Proven track record in service improvement and change leadership
• Strong leadership and people-management skills
• Understanding of clinical governance, patient safety, and risk management
• Financial awareness in sustainable service delivery
• Ability to build cross-organisational relationships across clinical, operational, and academic environments
