Senior Mental Health Practitioner

Overview

In this Band 7 role, you lead clinical activity at the CAMHS SPA front door, ensuring safe, timely triage and appropriate referral pathways. You provide senior clinical oversight, support complex decision-making, and contribute to risk assessment and care planning. You work with a multidisciplinary team to promote early identification and access to suitable services, helping young people receive effective mental health support. Responsibilities

• Support the team manager with clinical leadership within the team
• Oversee triage and assessment of referrals and daily operations
• Perform comprehensive triage to determine urgency and need based on risk
• Collect detailed information on the young person’s mental health history and psychosocial factors
• Formulate risk assessments and manage safeguarding concerns; implement actions as needed
• Provide immediate crisis intervention and develop crisis management plans
• Develop care plans and explore community-based avenues for support
• Support integration of the mental health agenda and build community resilience through consultation and advice
• Collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team

Key requirements

• Current professional registration with NMC, HCPC, or Social Work England
• Evidence of CPD and continuous professional development
• Degree or diploma with specialist qualification; master’s-level equivalent training relevant to the care group
• Post-registration training in relevant service area; Mentorship or Practice Supervisor Course completion
• Extensive post-qualifying experience in relevant service area
• Experience supervising staff and students
• Ability to manage a caseload of children and young people with complex mental health needs
• Comprehensive knowledge of interventions specific to the service area
• Awareness of Trust policies and service specification
