Project Engineer

Overview

As a Project Engineer, you will lead capital projects across Brenntag UK & Ireland from concept to commissioning, ensuring safety, schedule adherence, and cost control. You’ll coordinate internal teams and contractors, drive engineering deliverables, and uphold process safety standards. This role sits at the intersection of engineering and operations, enabling you to influence plant improvements and strategic facility development. You will work closely with cross-functional groups to deliver value while sustaining Brenntag’s safety and quality culture. This is a chance to shape the UK&I capital program and deliver tangible improvements across sites.

Responsibilities

• Lead capital investment and operational improvement projects from concept through to completion
• Develop project scopes, technical specifications, business cases, and execution plans
• Prepare and manage schedules, budgets, and resource plans
• Identify and mitigate project risks; coordinate internal stakeholders and external contractors
• Ensure commissioning, start-up, and handover to operations
• Produce and review engineering documentation (tech specs, P&IDs, plant layouts, equipment specs, SOWs)
• Provide engineering support to operations and maintenance; contribute to facility development and continuous improvement
• Ensure projects comply with PM framework, standards, regulatory requirements, and industry best practice
• Manage tendering, supplier/contractor evaluation, and on-site performance; enforce safety and quality standards
• Prepare and monitor budgets, expenditure forecasts, and financial reporting; support PO creation and approvals

Key requirements

• HND or Degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical, Chemical, Process, Electrical, or related Engineering
• Minimum 3+ years’ experience delivering engineering projects in manufacturing, chemical, industrial, logistics, or process environments
• Experience managing capital projects through full lifecycle
• Strong understanding of project management: scope, cost, schedule, risk, and stakeholder management
• Experience producing engineering specifications and technical documentation
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs, and layout drawings
• Experience managing contractors and suppliers
• Proficient in Microsoft Project or equivalent
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
• Full UK Driving Licence
