Job Description:

Microsoft 365 & Cloud Engineer

Birmingham – Hybrid (2DPW in office)

Up to £46,000

VIQU are partnering with a well-established organisation undergoing a significant Microsoft cloud transformation. They are seeking a Microsoft 365 & Cloud Engineer to play a key role in modernising their existing infrastructure and supporting the transition from a traditional on-premise environment towards a fully cloud-managed Microsoft estate. This is predominantly a project-focused position, requiring someone with hands‑on experience implementing and improving Microsoft 365, Intune and Entra ID environments, rather than simply maintaining established services. Working within a small IT team, the successful candidate will have significant ownership and the opportunity to influence how the organisation’s modern workplace and cloud environment develops.

Key Responsibilities of the Microsoft 365 & Cloud Engineer:

  • Support the ongoing migration from on-premise and hybrid infrastructure towards a fully cloud-managed Microsoft environment
  • Configure, develop and optimise Microsoft Intune, Entra ID, Microsoft 365 and associated Modern Workplace technologies
  • Implement and improve endpoint and device management capabilities, including Windows Autopilot, configuration policies and compliance controls
  • Review the existing Microsoft environment, identifying areas for improvement and recommending appropriate technical solutions
  • Support the migration of users, devices and services away from legacy Active Directory, Exchange and Group Policy infrastructure
  • Contribute to security improvement initiatives including Cyber Essentials Plus, vulnerability management, Microsoft Defender and endpoint security
  • Support and improve Microsoft 365 services including SharePoint, Purview and wider collaboration and security capabilities
  • Assist with the management of remaining on-premise infrastructure during the organisation’s transition to cloud
  • Work across project delivery and BAU activities within a small, collaborative IT function

Key Experience Required of the Microsoft 365 & Cloud Engineer:

  • Strong hands‑on experience with Microsoft 365, Microsoft Intune and Entra ID / Azure Active Directory
  • Demonstrable experience implementing, configuring and improving Intune and modern endpoint management environments
  • Experience with Windows Autopilot, device management, configuration policies and user management
  • Previous experience supporting or delivering migrations from on-premise or hybrid Microsoft environments towards cloud-based infrastructure
  • Good understanding of traditional Microsoft infrastructure including Active Directory, Group Policy, Exchange and Windows environments
  • Understanding of Microsoft security technologies including Conditional Access, Defender, vulnerability management and security controls
  • Working knowledge of networking fundamentals including switches, Wi‑Fi and firewalls
  • Experience with VMware and remaining on-premise infrastructure would be advantageous
  • Strong problem‑solving skills with the confidence to assess existing environments, challenge current configurations and recommend improvements
  • Comfortable working within a small IT team and contributing across both transformation projects and BAU support when required
