About the role

We’re looking for a mid-level Software Engineer to join our Back of House engineering team and help build, support and evolve a range of business-critical applications. Working across a range of Bravissimo applications, you’ll develop APIs, backend services and event-driven solutions that support key business areas including product management, customer acquisition, ordering and fulfilment.

Bravissimo is in the middle of a major digital transformation programme, with plans to transition our legacy .NET estate to new service-based architectures. We’re evolving towards a full-stack engineering environment, with TypeScript, Node.js, React and AWS at the heart of our modern applications and services.

You’ll contribute to modern cloud-based solutions while also supporting established business-critical applications as part of our ongoing technology modernisation programme.

This is a hands-on development role for someone who enjoys writing quality software, problem solving and continually developing their technical skills. It requires a blend of backend and frontend skills, but with a heavy focus on the backend. You’ll work collaboratively to shape technical solutions and deliver meaningful business outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

• Support, maintain and improve existing business applications, preparing them for the digital transformation.
• Build and support scalable applications using TypeScript, JavaScript and Node.js.
• Design, develop and maintain APIs, backend services and integrations, and cloud-based solutions.
• Work with databases and data integrations across multiple systems.
• Contribute to event-driven and API-led architectures.
• Troubleshoot production issues and implement sustainable solutions.
• Participate in the ongoing modernisation of legacy systems and platforms.
• Contribute to code reviews, technical discussions and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, refinement, reviews and retrospectives.

Experience with every technology isn’t expected, but a willingness to learn and develop new skills is essential.

About you

You’re a competent, self-motivated engineer, able to demonstrate your skills and provide examples of applications you’ve contributed to. Experience in a retail environment would be beneficial but is not essential.

You’ll also:

Essential Skills

• Strong coding skills using TypeScript, JavaScript or a comparable modern language.
• .NET development
• Building and supporting production applications, APIs and services.
• Comfortable supporting and evolving existing business-critical applications while contributing to the development of modern cloud-native solutions.
• Experience with relational databases and SQL.
• Understanding of system integration patterns, APIs and event-driven architectures.
• Familiarity with cloud computing concepts and practical experience using AWS or Azure.
• Using Git-based version control in a collaborative development environment.
• Experience diagnosing and resolving issues within live production systems.
• Experience working in an Agile delivery team.
• Strong testing mindset, including unit testing, regression testing and providing clear evidence that solutions are working before work is considered complete.

Desirable Skills

• AWS services, particularly serverless technologies such as Lambda.
• Designing and building cloud-native applications.
• Containerisation and Kubernetes.
• Observability, monitoring and logging platforms such as Grafana.
• CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment practices.
• GitLab experience.
• Experience supporting or modernising legacy business applications.
• Experience with distributed or event-driven systems.
• Comfortable using AI-assisted development tools to support productivity, learning, code quality and problem-solving, while applying sound engineering judgement and taking accountability for the solutions delivered.
