A specialist structural engineering consultancy is looking to appoint an experienced Chartered or Incorporated Structural Engineer to join its growing team across the M1 and M62 corridor.
This is a specialist opportunity for an engineer with a strong background in residential insurance claims, building defects and structural investigations, who is looking to develop their career within an established and growing consultancy.
Our client works extensively within the residential sector, providing structural engineering expertise in relation to property damage, insurance claims, building defects and construction-related issues.
The Role
You will be responsible for investigating and assessing residential properties where structural damage or defects have occurred, often following an insured event or property-related issue.
Your role will involve:
- Inspecting residential properties and assessing structural damage
- Investigating the cause and extent of damage and defects
- Assessing damage associated with a range of insured perils, including subsidence, escape of water, storm damage, impact, fire and other forms of property damage
- Determining appropriate remedial solutions
- Preparing detailed technical reports and engineering recommendations
- Providing professional opinions on causation, damage and repair
- Reviewing existing construction and identifying defects or failures
- Liaising with insurers, loss adjusters, policyholders, contractors and other professionals
- Providing technical advice throughout the lifecycle of an insurance claim
- Managing a caseload of investigations and ensuring reports are delivered within agreed timescales
- Attending site visits across the region as required
The position will involve a combination of site-based investigation, technical assessment, report writing and client interaction.
About You
This role requires an experienced structural engineer with a genuine background in residential insurance and perils-related work.
You will need to be:
- Chartered or Incorporated with a recognised professional engineering institution
- A qualified Structural or Civil Engineer
- Experienced within the residential property insurance sector
- Experienced in investigating structural damage and building defects
- Familiar with insurance-related perils and claims
- Confident assessing causation and recommending appropriate remedial works
- Experienced in producing clear, technically robust engineering reports
- Comfortable dealing directly with insurers, loss adjusters, homeowners and contractors
- Able to work autonomously and manage your own caseload
- A strong communicator with excellent report-writing skills
- Commercially aware and able to manage competing priorities
Experience with subsidence and foundation-related investigations would be particularly beneficial, although experience across a broader range of residential insurance perils will also be considered.

Location
The role will suit candidates based across the M1 and M62 corridor and surrounding areas, including Leeds, Sheffield, Wakefield, Huddersfield, Bradford, Doncaster, York and the wider Yorkshire and North East region.
Travel to residential properties will be required as part of the role.
