The Role
As a Senior Java Developer, you will play a key role in the design, development, and deployment of modern digital services. You will work on complex systems, contribute to architectural decisions, and support the wider engineering team through mentorship and technical leadership.You’ll collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including product, design, DevOps, and QA to deliver high-quality solutions aligned to user and business needs.
Key Responsibilities
Development & Engineering
Design, build, and maintain robust, scalable, and secure software solutionsDevelop modern applications using Java, Spring Boot, and microservices architecturesContribute to architectural decisions and ensure alignment with overall system designTroubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues
Quality & Best Practice
Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested codeImplement and improve CI/CD pipelines to improve delivery efficiencyConduct code reviews and promote high standards of software qualityEnsure strong test coverage and adherence to secure-by-design principles
Collaboration & Delivery
Work within agile delivery teams across the full software lifecycleCollaborate with product managers, designers, and engineers to meet delivery goalsContribute to technical discussions early in the project lifecycleCommunicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Leadership & Mentorship
Mentor and support junior engineers, helping to develop capability within the teamChampion best practices in software development and continuous improvementContribute to enhancing engineering standards, tooling, and processes
Continuous Improvement
Stay up to date with emerging technologies and industry trendsIdentify opportunities to improve systems, processes, and toolingSupport adoption of modern engineering practices and approaches
About You
Essential Experience
Strong experience across the full software development lifecycleSignificant hands-on experience with
Java, Spring Boot, and microservicesExperience working in agile environments with DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelinesKnowledge of cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCPFamiliarity with containerisation technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) or serverless architecturesExperience with automated testing frameworks and modern development practicesUnderstanding of software architecture patterns and secure design principlesStrong communication skills with the ability to engage technical and non-technical stakeholders
Desirable
Experience operating at a senior level within engineering teamsExposure to consulting or client-facing environmentsExperience delivering within government or public sector settingsProficiency across additional programming languages
