Lead Software Engineer, Full-Stack Applications – AI Fluent (Manchester)

Overview

In this role you drive the technical direction for mission-critical, AI-aware full-stack applications within Fitch’s Ratings Technology organization. You will partner with product, analytics, and technology teams to modernize workflows and to accelerate responsible AI adoption at scale. As a senior technologist, you will mentor engineers, influence architecture, and translate emerging ideas into scalable, impactful outcomes. You will operate in a fast-paced environment that values curiosity, experimentation, and measurable innovation, helping analysts and engineers work more effectively with data-driven platforms.

Responsibilities

• Define technical vision and accelerate AI-enabled transformation across analytics workflows
• Architect robust, scalable full-stack apps using Python and React; set standards and identify high-value AI opportunities
• Lead through mentorship and collaboration with product managers and analysts
• Champion responsible AI adoption; evaluate proofs of concept and translate them into repeatable practices
• Establish CI/CD, perform architecture reviews, and address performance/scalability challenges
• Shape team direction through strategic technical initiatives and cross-team collaboration
• Ensure reliability and performance in fast-paced Agile environments

Key requirements

• 12+ years of professional software engineering experience
• Expert Python backend development
• Hands-on React frontend development
• Strong TypeScript/JavaScript, HTML, CSS skills
• Experience designing RESTful APIs and integrating third-party services
• Solid software design, OOP, data structures, algorithms, scalable architecture
• Experience with relational and NoSQL databases
• Familiarity with Agile methodologies
• AI Fluency with LLMs and AI tools (OpenAI, AWS Bedrock, Anthropic) and concepts like prompt engineering and RAG
• Bachelor’s degree in CS/Software Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience
• Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
