Backend Developer (Python)

Overview

In this role you will develop and modernise highly distributed Python backends for a tier 1 bank. You will work within a high-performing engineering team to deliver reliable, scalable systems that support critical production platforms. The position focuses on code quality, testing, and robust operations in a financial services context. You will collaborate across the tech stack to drive production readiness and continuous improvement, contributing to legacy system modernisation and agile delivery.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain Python backend services for distributed systems
• Design, implement and test microservices and event-driven components
• Support production platforms and troubleshoot issues in production
• Work with CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices and container orchestration
• Monitor and improve system reliability using metrics and observability tools
• Engage in automated testing (TDD) and maintain high code quality
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams in an agile environment
• Contribute to legacy system modernisation initiatives
