Senior Electrical Engineer Rail

Overview

Senior Electrical Engineer for a central M&E team delivering LV electrical works across a major rail infrastructure programme. You review contractor designs, identify non-compliances, and develop practical, compliant solutions within a multidisciplinary delivery context. The role emphasises technical assurance, interface management, and stakeholder engagement to keep the project on time and to standard. You will contribute to safe, reliable electrical infrastructures across underground assets and route-wide LV distribution.

Responsibilities

• Review electrical designs and contractor submissions for LV distribution, switchgear, lighting, and cable management; ensure compliance with standards
• Identify technical issues or non-compliances and develop practical solutions with the engineering team
• Provide construction-stage technical assurance and site presence to verify works
• Coordinate interfaces across disciplines and contractor interfaces, challenging proposals when needed
• Balance technical requirements with programme and commercial constraints to support delivery
• Engage with stakeholders and manage communications with contractors and internal teams
• Support continuous improvement of electrical delivery processes on the project

Key requirements

• Strong electrical engineering background within building services
• Experience delivering electrical systems on large multidisciplinary projects
• Technical knowledge of LV distribution, switchboards, lighting, and cable management
• Experience reviewing contractor designs and resolving technical queries during delivery
• Ability to identify issues and develop compliant engineering solutions
• Understanding of project delivery constraints (time, cost)
• Experience collaborating across disciplines and managing interfaces
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
• Engineering qualification (HNC/HND, degree or equivalent)
• Experience site inspections and construction-stage technical assurance
• Breadth of knowledge beyond graduate level to independently resolve issues
