Section Engineer – Highways

Overview

As Section Engineer on a major highways project in Didcot, you will own a defined section and support the Project Manager to deliver on time and to spec. You’ll lead on-site coordination, set out and QA, and drive safe, efficient delivery with a hands-on, proactive approach. The role sits within a collaborative culture that values technical excellence and people development. You will influence construction delivery and quality on a high-profile, long-term scheme.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of site engineers
• Provide technical guidance to site workers and engineers
• Check and monitor setting out against plans
• Prepare and review work package and management plans
• Identify and resolve on-site issues promptly
• Ensure compliance with H&S procedures
• Monitor contractual requirements and progress reporting
• Manage site documentation and records
• Liaise with local authorities/regulatory bodies
• Participate in project meetings and update on section progress

Key requirements

• Proven experience as Site Engineer or Section Engineer in highways/public realm
• Experience supervising subcontractors and site operations
• Strong planning, prioritising and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• CSCS, First Aid at Work and full UK driving licence
