Software Engineer

Overview

As a Software Engineer in the UK Oxford team, you build and evolve Habitat Energy’s renewable energy platform that supports a large fleet of battery storage assets. You work with traders, data scientists, and operations to deliver scalable, resilient software and interfaces for asset dispatch, trading, and reporting. You’ll follow SDLC practices, write tests, and contribute to on-call support, helping accelerate the net-zero transition.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain applications and existing codebase
• Work on microservice APIs and UIs for dispatch, trading, reporting, and settlements
• Collaborate with traders, data scientists, and ops analysts to define solutions
• Architect robust, scalable software in noisy, market-driven environments
• Ensure software is released and maintained per the SDLC; write tests and runbooks
• Contribute to deployment validation on Kubernetes and create clear documentation
• Participate in peer reviews and on-call rotation for live operations

Key requirements

• 3+ years of Python experience
• Proficiency with API frameworks (FastAPI, Django, etc.)
• Experience with modeling databases with Python (SQLAlchemy)
• Experience developing UIs with modern frameworks (Vue)
• Desire to work in a fast-paced team with live assets
• Clean, tested code; good communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders
