Reference: REQ0328Description: Make a Difference Every DayWe are looking for a motivated and compassionate Tenancy & Sustainment Officer to join our Housing Team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about helping people access and sustain housing while delivering an excellent customer-focused service.In this varied and rewarding role, you will play a key part in managing our temporary accommodation and Housing Led schemes, supporting residents to maintain successful tenancies, and ensuring our homes are allocated and re-let efficiently. You will work closely with vulnerable households, partner agencies, and colleagues across the Council to help residents achieve positive housing outcomes.If you have experience in housing, lettings, tenancy management and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment where no two days are the same, we would love to hear from you.About the RoleAs a Tenancy & Sustainment Officer, you will:Manage the allocation and re-letting of temporary accommodation and Housing Led properties.Coordinate the efficient turnaround of void properties, from tenancy termination through to re-let.Carry out property viewings, sign-ups, pre-termination inspections and new tenant visits.Support residents to sustain their tenancies through tailored support plans and early intervention.Promote tenancy compliance and ensure residents understand their rights and responsibilities.Assist residents with accessing services including utilities, council tax registration, healthcare services and welfare benefits.Manage transfers, management moves, decants and mutual exchanges.Encourage and support residents to maximise their income and maintain regular rent payments.Prepare households for move-on from temporary accommodation into longer-term housing solutions.Work collaboratively with Adult Social Care, Mental Health Services, Children's Services and other support agencies.Attend safeguarding meetings, case conferences and multi-agency discussions where appropriate.Monitor property conditions and take appropriate action where accommodation is unoccupied, damaged or not being maintained.Raise recharges where costs have been incurred as a result of tenant damage beyond fair wear and tear.About YouWe are looking for someone with:Essential Skills and ExperienceExperience in residential lettings, housing management, tenancy sustainment, homelessness, or a related field.Experience of tenancy management and supporting residents to maintain successful tenancies.Excellent communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills.Ability to engage positively with people experiencing challenging or complex circumstances.Strong administrative and organisational skills.Ability to manage competing priorities and work to deadlines.Good IT skills and experience using housing management systems and Microsoft Office applications.A commitment to delivering excellent customer service.Understanding of working with vulnerable households and multi-agency partners.DesirableExperience working within social housing or local government.Knowledge of housing legislation, safeguarding and welfare benefits.Experience promoting tenant engagement and empowerment.Understanding of homelessness prevention and housing support services.What We OfferIn return, we offer:A rewarding role where you can make a genuine difference to people's lives.Opportunities for learning, development and career progression.A supportive and collaborative team environment.Local Government Pension Scheme.Flexible working arrangements where service needs allow.A comprehensive employee benefits package.Join UsThis is an excellent opportunity to help shape positive housing outcomes for residents across the district while developing your career within a forward-thinking housing service.If you are committed to supporting people, delivering excellent services, and making a difference in your community, we encourage you to apply.For an informal discussion, please contact: Craig Sulley, Senior Tenancy & Sustainment Officer craig.sulley@stroud.gov.uk CLOSING DATE: 12 October 2026INTERVIEW DATE: 23 October 2026In exchange for your expertise, experience and enthusiasm we provide a range of staff benefits.
