Cyber Security Engineer

Cyber Security Manager – Manchester Location – £45K

A prominent non-profit housing provider in the North West is seeking a Cyber Security Engineer to join their central IT division.

This role is ideal for a Cyber Security Analyst or Systems Administrator with security exposure who is ready to step into a dedicated engineering role. Working alongside internal IT, infrastructure teams, and an external managed Security Operations Centre (SOC), you will play a key role in hardening environments, managing threats, and driving security improvement projects across a modern cloud ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities

• Proactive Security Improvements: Identify security weaknesses and drive hands-on remediation across systems, cloud (Azure), and network infrastructure.
• Incident Triage & SOC Collaboration: Act as an internal technical escalation point, investigating alerts and working alongside an external managed SOC partner.
• Vulnerability & Endpoint Management: Manage vulnerability scanning outputs, prioritize patches, and tune security tooling (EDR, SIEM, email security).
• Secure Design: Work with infrastructure and application teams to embed “secure-by-design” principles into ongoing projects.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Communicate effectively across IT teams to ensure security fixes are prioritized and implemented.

Candidate Requirements

• Hands-on Exposure: Practical background in cybersecurity operations, triage, or IT infrastructure security.
• Tooling Familiarity: Experience working with vulnerability scanners, endpoint detection (EDR), and Microsoft/Azure security environments.
• Proven Involvement: Demonstrated experience directly configuring, deploying, or remediating security controls (not just watching from the sidelines).
• Drive & Confidence: Eagerness to challenge existing practices, take ownership of projects, and grow technical skills.
• Certifications/Qualifications: None strictly required; practical drive and technical curiosity are valued above certifications.
