Job Description:

Head of Bidding – Waste Management | UK-wide | Strategic, High‑Impact Role | £70,000

If you’re a seasoned bidding leader from the waste management sector who loves shaping strategy, influencing senior stakeholders, and winning complex tenders — this is a role where you can genuinely make your mark.

We’re looking for a Head of Bidding to take ownership of the full tender lifecycle, driving win strategies for projects typically ranging from £1m to £10m+ across public and private sectors. You’ll sit at the heart of the commercial engine: qualifying opportunities, steering bid teams, and ensuring every submission is sharp, compliant, and compelling.

This is a role for someone who thrives under pressure, brings discipline to the process, and knows how to turn procurement complexity into competitive advantage.

Why this role matters

Waste management is a sector where procurement is evolving fast — tighter regulation, more scrutiny, more innovation. We need someone who can read the landscape early, shape opportunities before they fully form, and bring a strategic lens to every bid decision.

You’ll be the person who sets the tone: disciplined qualification, strong win themes, airtight compliance, and a culture of continuous improvement.

What you’ll be doing

  • Owning the full bid lifecycle from qualification to contract award
  • Developing win strategies and carrying them through every stage of the process
  • Leading virtual bid teams across commercial, legal, delivery and technical functions
  • Managing tender pipelines across UK & Ireland procurement portals and frameworks
  • Producing clear, compliant, high‑scoring responses aligned to evaluation criteria
  • Ensuring full procurement compliance including UK Procurement Act, FOI, GDPR and DPS procedures
  • Driving pricing strategy, cost modelling and margin protection
  • Championing responsible AI use across the bid process
  • Improving bid processes, content libraries, governance and team capability
  • Leading structured handovers to ensure smooth mobilisation on award

⭐ What you’ll bring

  • A proven track record of winning complex bids in the waste management sector
  • Gravitas to influence senior stakeholders and guide disciplined bid processes
  • Deep understanding of frameworks, negotiated routes, multi‑lot tenders
  • Strong writing skills — clear, persuasive, structured
  • High attention to detail and document control discipline
  • Experience using and governing AI tools within bid environments
  • Commercial sharpness, risk awareness and negotiation confidence
  • APMP Practitioner (minimum) and ideally training in responsible AI
  • Resilience, organisation, and the ability to stay calm under sustained deadlines

What success looks like

  • Strong win rates across qualified pipeline
  • Disciplined bid/no‑bid decisions
  • 100% compliant, on‑time submissions
  • Zero material errors in AI‑assisted content
  • Positive feedback from bid teams and executive sponsors
