Lead Software Engineer – Java & AI

Overview

In this role you will lead the development of a cloud-based payments application, delivering high-performance, low-latency solutions. You will build end-to-end payment flows within an agile team, driving innovation and production stability to support a rapidly expanding business. You’ll collaborate across technical areas to enhance trusted technologies and scale impactful payment products. This role offers the opportunity to shape the architecture and delivery of mission-critical payments capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Execute creative software solutions, design and troubleshoot systems
• Develop secure, production-grade code and review peers work
• Promote enterprise AI-assisted engineering practices for quality and speed
• Establish secure coding, validation, testing standards
• Encourage reuse of effective patterns across the team
• Utilize SDLC tools including AI-assisted development and automation
• Lead architectural evaluation sessions with internal teams
• Lead communities of practice to foster new technologies
• Support a culture of diversity, inclusion, and respect

Key requirements

• Hands-on coding experience with a proven track record
• Strong understanding of responsible AI in engineering workflows, including data sensitivity and security
• Experience mentoring engineers on safe, compliant AI adoption
• Experience delivering system design, development, testing, and operational stability
• Advanced proficiency in one or more programming languages, ideally Java
• Proficiency in automation and continuous delivery methods
• Proficient in all aspects of the Software Development Life Cycle
• Advanced understanding of agile methods, including CI/CD, application resiliency, and security
• Knowledge of cloud, AI/ML, or related technical disciplines
• Knowledge of the financial services industry and practical cloud-native experience
