System Development Engineer, AWS Networking

Overview

As a Systems Development Engineer at AWS, you design, build, and operate software tools that keep the network-powered cloud running at scale. You collaborate with network engineers to automate and modernize our network tooling, solving complex problems and delivering reliable automation. You’ll own end-to-end services, from design through testing to deployment, with a focus on reducing manual work and improving operational efficiency. This role offers hands-on impact in a fast-moving, Agile environment with cutting-edge technologies and a mission to power the world’s largest cloud network.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and improve team services end-to-end and troubleshoot issues to root cause
• Design and implement testing, monitoring, and validation for services, tools, and infrastructure
• Develop automation to reduce manual operations across teams and balance current/future business needs
• Identify and implement long-term fixes and improvements to procedures and systems
• Provide solutions to technically challenging business problems in a global context

Key requirements

• Experience in software development, systems engineering, SRE or DevOps roles
• Programming in at least one modern language (Python, Ruby, Golang, Java, C++, C#, Rust)
• Knowledge of full SDLC best practices including coding standards, reviews, source control, builds, tests, and operations
• Practical understanding of network fundamentals (DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, routing, switching, HTTP)
• Knowledge of systems engineering fundamentals (host networking, storage, Linux OS)
• Experience designing, developing or operating cloud services on AWS or another cloud platform (preferred)
