Senior Data Engineer – Data Science/Machine Learning Platform

Overview

In this role you will design and evolve ASOS’s cloud data platform to support data science, ML engineering and analytics at scale. You’ll work with cross-functional teams to enable data-driven products across forecasting, recommendations, pricing, marketing and customer domains. The focus is on building reliable, scalable data infrastructure and improving developer experience. You will shape platform architecture and foster engineering excellence, with a strong impact on business value.

Responsibilities

• Design and build data platform capabilities for data and ML workloads
• Develop high-performance pipelines using Python, Scala, Spark and Databricks
• Own and evolve platform components for building, testing, deployment and monitoring of data products
• Improve reliability, observability, data quality and operational excellence
• Create reusable libraries, tooling and engineering patterns to accelerate delivery
• Partner with Data Scientists, ML Engineers and Product Engineering to enable new ML use cases
• Contribute to architectural decisions and data engineering standards
• Optimize distributed workloads for performance, scalability and cost in Azure
• Support long-term development of ASOS’s data platform and engineering practices
• Collaborate with multiple Data Science and ML teams to deliver platform value

Key requirements

• Experience building or operating large-scale data platforms or data-intensive apps in a cloud environment
• Experience with Databricks, Spark and distributed data processing
• Experience developing production-grade data engineering solutions using Python and/or Scala
• Experience designing scalable, reliable, cost-efficient data architectures
• Experience implementing CI/CD, automated testing, observability and Infrastructure as Code
• Proven ability to solve complex engineering problems and improve platform capabilities
• Experience leading design and delivery of complex data engineering solutions and setting technical direction
• Experience mentoring engineers through technical guidance and knowledge sharing
• Ability to collaborate across teams and stakeholders to deliver scalable, reliable data solutions
