Mechanical Support Engineer

Overview

As Mechanical Engineering Lead, you guide and develop the Technician Team to deliver safe, reliable maintenance across the asset. You drive equipment reliability improvements and help shape the site’s longer-term mechanical strategy. You collaborate with technicians, contractors and stakeholders to plan, modify, and optimize plants while upholding process safety and compliance. This role offers impact through leading technical delivery in a petrochemical/oil & gas environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead and support the Mechanical Technician Team to plan and safely deliver maintenance
• Coordinate with technicians, contractors and stakeholders to ensure efficient maintenance and minor modifications
• Provide engineering support for plant modifications, breakdowns and reliability improvements
• Plan and deliver minor mechanical projects and modifications
• Develop and maintain mechanical equipment maintenance strategies
• Support equipment procurement and review inventory needs
• Mentor and develop technicians through training and guidance
• Apply strong standards of process safety, risk management and engineering compliance

Key requirements

• Broad mechanical engineering background in petrochemical/oil & gas or hazardous processes
• Experience with rotating machinery (pumps, compressors, engines, gearboxes) and hydraulic/pneumatic systems
• Knowledge of piping, valves, PSVs and pressure equipment
• Recognised mechanical engineering qualification; apprenticeship or equivalent; HND or similar preferred
• Around 10 years’ relevant experience in similar environments
• Strong communication, leadership and influencing skills
• Ability to own engineering responsibilities and collaborate across technical and operational teams
