Industrial Placement – Structural Engineer – Cardiff

Overview

In this industrial placement, you join Arup’s Structural Engineering team to support projects across transport, commercial, education and healthcare sectors. You’ll learn the craft by shadowing experienced engineers, contributing to low-carbon design and model-based analysis on a range of projects from neighbourhood scale to major infrastructure. The role emphasizes hands-on technical work, collaboration, and professional development toward accreditation. Responsibilities

• Carry out structural analysis and modelling for projects
• Develop economical and practical structural solutions with low embodied carbon
• Build and use computer and structural models to assess structural behavior
• Prepare drawings, BIM deliverables and technical documents
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to progress projects
• Learn codes of practice, materials, and construction techniques
• Plan deadlines and manage personal development and deliverables
• Identify innovative or more efficient ways of working and scripting/automation where applicable

Key requirements

• Currently studying towards a Degree in General, Civil, Structural, Design or Architectural Engineering (2.1 or above)
• Studying or having studied ICE or IStructE accredited course
• Strong interest in structural engineering and professional development
