On behalf of the CPS, we are looking for a Fire Engineer (Inside IR35) contract which is running to December 2026 which is a hybrid role so requires occasional travel to the nearest CPS office, there are 14 locations in the UK The CPS prosecutes criminal cases that have been investigated by the police and other investigative organisations in England and Wales. The CPS is independent, and they make their decisions independently of the police and government. To lead a CPS pilot examining the accuracy, condition and maintenance of fire door assets across one or two priority buildings. The postholder will provide an independent professional position on which doors are required and evidenced as fire doors, whether the asset register and maintenance arrangements are accurate and where CPS can strengthen assurance or secure better value for money. As a Fire Engineer, your main responsibilities will be: * Review fire strategies, compartmentation drawings, asset registers, maintenance schedules and supporting evidence. * Establish an agreed evidence hierarchy and inspection methodology. * Undertake complete site surveys across the selected buildings. * Determine whether recorded doors are physically present and supported as fire door assets. * Identify required doors that are missing from the asset register. * Distinguish confirmed, probable, unsupported and unverified fire door assets. * Complete a visual condition inspection of verified and probable fire doors. * Compare physical condition with available inspection and maintenance records. * Identify missing evidence, repeated defects and inconsistencies in maintenance reporting. * Produce a defensible door by door evidence schedule. * Correctly distinguish technical findings from assumptions and matters requiring further investigation. * Assess the potential financial effect of inaccurate records. * Provide evidence to support any subsequent CPS engagement with GPA, landlords or suppliers. * Develop a repeatable approach that can be applied across the wider estate. * Produce clear technical reports and concise Executive advice. Essential Skills * Recognised professional competence in fire engineering or passive fire protection. * Detailed technical knowledge of fire doors, compartmentation and fire strategies. * Experience of fire door inspection, asset validation and condition assessment. * Experience of interpreting fire strategies, drawings, certification and asset records. * Knowledge of current fire safety legislation, government guidance and applicable British Standards. * The ability to provide clear, independent and evidence based professional judgements. * Experience of analysing inspection and maintenance evidence. * Strong data reconciliation, report writing and stakeholder management skills. * The ability to communicate technical findings clearly to senior leaders and non technical stakeholders. Qualifications * Professional registration with the Engineering Council at IEng or CEng level, membership of the Institution of Fire Engineers or demonstrably equivalent competence should be sought * Recognised fire door inspection competence should also be required.
