Overview

As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you design and deliver mechanical solutions for Zephyr programmes within a multidisciplinary team. You will contribute to the digital design record and work with manufacturing, procurement, testing and assembly across the product lifecycle. You’ll tackle lightweight aerospace structures in a fast-paced environment that values innovation and technical excellence. You’ll shape robust solutions and influence manufacturability and production efficiency, with a strong focus on impact and collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Develop mechanical design solutions for Zephyr programmes, individually or in teams
• Create detailed 3D CAD models, assemblies and drawings using SolidWorks
• Support manufacturing by resolving design issues and providing hands-on engineering support
• Lead or participate in design reviews and maturity gate activities
• Support mechanical testing to validate designs
• Manage design updates and changes via configuration and change control
• Identify opportunities to improve quality, performance, manufacturability and efficiency
• Integrate Design for Manufacture principles early in the design process
• Own engineering work packages from concept through delivery
• Collaborate with procurement and production teams to embed DfM

Key requirements

• Significant experience in mechanical design engineering
• Degree, HND or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related discipline
• Strong SolidWorks proficiency
• Experience with Product Data Management (PDM) in a CAD environment
• Understanding of Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) tools and processes
• Ability to translate technical requirements into robust engineering solutions
• Experience developing innovative solutions for technically challenging applications
• Knowledge of lightweight composite structures and design
