Senior Design Manager

Overview

Senior Design Manager role based in South Wales/South West with opportunity to travel across sites. You will lead the design process, manage client and design team relationships, and ensure designs meet project and regulatory requirements. The role emphasises CDM 2015 compliance, risk mitigation, and delivering high-quality, buildable design solutions. You will collaborate with planners, consultants, and stakeholders to drive timely, cost-aware design delivery. Responsibilities

• Manage client, subcontractor, project and design team relationships for efficient design development and delivery
• Lead the design process in line with Building Management System
• Apply and monitor CDM 2015 and safety in design principles
• Identify and mitigate design risk; realise opportunities across bid or project
• Assist in selecting designers and ensure competency checks
• Develop and agree scope for consultants and manage project fee schedule
• Develop design programme with Planner; manage Information Release Schedules and design deliverables
• Manage statutory and third-party processes (Planning, Building Control, BREEAM)
• Conduct site inspections to verify As-built meets design criteria

Key requirements

• Experience with CDM 2015
• Understanding of H&S responsibilities and company policies
• Ability to read and interpret design and construction programmes
• Understanding of buildability and ability to challenge design sequencing/methodology
• Analytical and problem-solving mindset
• Ability to develop ideas and present concisely
• Excellent communicator with experience engaging senior stakeholders
• Commercial acumen and experience managing design change processes
