POSITION SUMMARY
The Night Shift Supervisor is responsible for overseeing safe, efficient, and compliant night-time operations within the electric haulage and electric vehicle (EV) charging environment. The role provides supervisory cover during night shifts, ensuring continuity of service, effective management of personnel, vehicle availability, charging infrastructure performance, and adherence to health, safety, and operational standards. The post holder will act as the primary point of contact during assigned shifts, responding to operational issues, coordinating resources, and maintaining communication with management and key stakeholders.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Operational Supervision
● Provide supervisory leadership for night shift operations.
● Monitor electric haulage activities to ensure operational efficiency and service delivery targets are met.
● Coordinate vehicle movements, charging schedules, and resource allocation.
● Ensure all vehicles are available, charged, and prepared for operational requirements.
● Maintain accurate shift records, reports, and handover documentation.
Team Leadership
● Supervise and support drivers, charging operatives, technicians, and other operational personnel.
● Conduct shift briefings and communicate operational priorities.
● Monitor attendance, timekeeping, and staff performance during shifts.
● Provide guidance and support in resolving operational and personnel issues; escalate significant concerns to management as required.
Electric Charging Infrastructure Management
● Manage EV charging systems and charging schedules, ensuring equipment is operating safely and efficiently.
● Coordinate responses to charging equipment faults and service interruptions.
● Liaise with maintenance teams and external contractors where necessary.
● Maintain records of charging activity and equipment performance.
Health, Safety & Compliance
● Ensure compliance with all health and safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
● Conduct safety inspections and report hazards promptly, investigate and document incidents, accidents, and near misses.
● Promote a positive safety culture and ensure all personnel adhere to safe working practices.
Incident & Emergency Response
● Act as the first point of escalation for operational incidents during the night shift.
● Coordinate emergency responses involving vehicles, charging equipment, facilities, or personnel.
● Maintain communication with emergency services, management, and relevant stakeholders when required.
● Complete incident reports and recommend corrective actions.
Administration & Reporting
● Complete shift reports detailing operational performance, incidents, and outstanding issues.
● Monitor operational KPIs and report variances.
● Maintain accurate records relating to vehicle status, charging activities, and workforce deployment.
● Participate in operational reviews and continuous improvement initiatives.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
ESSENTIAL
● Experience in a supervisory role within transport, logistics, fleet operations, utilities, or a related operational environment.
● Experience managing teams during shift-based operations.
● Understanding of health and safety legislation and best practices.
DESIRABLE
● Valid driving licence (Class 1 C+E)
● Qualification in Transport, Logistics, Operations Management, or Engineering.
● Knowledge of electric vehicle operations and charging systems.
● Experience within electric haulage, EV infrastructure, or fleet electrification projects.
● IOSH Managing Safely, NEBOSH, or equivalent health and safety qualification.
