Overview
As a Business Development Manager, you will drive strategic growth for a growing engineering and infrastructure consultancy in London and across the UK. You will identify opportunities, manage client relationships, and support bids and account development, collaborating with senior leaders to shape growth strategy. The role blends business development, opportunity management, and bid support to expand key accounts and maximize new work. This is a pivotal, commercially-focused position with broad scope and cross-functional exposure.

Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain a qualified opportunity pipeline with accurate forecasting and CRM reporting
- Identify and qualify new business opportunities across target sectors and strategic clients
- Support directors and regional leaders with pipeline development and market intelligence
- Track framework opportunities and tender portals to identify upcoming opportunities
- Lead bid/no-bid decisions and support pursuit strategies
- Coordinate production of PQQs, EOIs, tenders and bid submissions
- Build and maintain relationships with clients, consultants, architects, contractors and industry stakeholders
- Act as a key contact for priority accounts and explore cross-selling opportunities
- Represent the business at networking events, conferences, and client meetings
- Gather market intelligence and client feedback to inform growth strategies
- Collaborate with marketing on case studies, bid collateral and thought leadership
- Support delivery of BD plans aligned to regional and national growth
- Report on pipeline, forecasting, market trends and bid success to senior management
- Collaborate with wider business units to maximize opportunities across the organisation
- Operate in a hybrid Central London setting with UK travel
- Attend client meetings and events across regional offices
Key requirements
- Proven business development, sales or bid management experience in the built environment
- Experience managing opportunity pipelines from lead generation to project award
- Strong understanding of procurement routes, framework agreements and tendering processes
- Experience supporting strategic account management and client relationship development
- Excellent stakeholder engagement, networking and influencing skills
- Strong commercial awareness and market intelligence capabilities
- Experience using CRM systems to manage opportunities and forecasting
- Proactive, self-sufficient and solutions-focused approach
- Excellent presentation and communication skills
- Desirable: existing network across construction/engineering/property sectors; experience in engineering consultancy or professional services; knowledge of procurement frameworks
