Intermediate / Senior Structural Engineer

Overview

In this role you will apply advanced structural design expertise to a diverse portfolio of buildings, collaborating across disciplines to deliver safe, sustainable solutions. You will contribute to business development and mentoring within the Buildings Engineering team, helping grow our structural practice and market presence. You will work on projects ranging from data centres to healthcare and education facilities, solving complex challenges in delivery and on-site coordination. Responsibilities

• Liaise with owners, architects, engineering disciplines, and project stakeholders to define objectives and relay them to the team
• Prepare and coordinate structural designs from conceptual design through tender and construction
• Prepare and oversee design calculations, technical specifications, and drawings for concrete, steel, masonry and wood structures
• Apply professional seal to construction documents and engineering reports
• Monitor and take responsibility for design work produced by structural team members
• Oversee structural construction, review on-site installation, and address technical issues with contractors
• Ensure QA/QC procedures are followed during project planning and execution
• Assist Project Managers in developing budgets, work plans, and schedules
• Coordinate design work with other disciplines and offices as required by project size
• Support Construction Administration personnel
• Coach junior staff through informal and formal sessions
• Participate in overall Stantec Buildings business development activities

Key requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering; Master’s is a strong asset
• 15+ years of post-graduation experience in structural design and business development
• Proficiency with ETABS, SAP 2000, SAFE, RISA, RAM; Revit and Bluebeam desired
• Working knowledge of CSA A23.1, concrete materials testing (CSA A23.2), ASTM and ACI
• Professional Engineer (P.Eng) in Canada; Alberta P.Eng required soon
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work independently and in multidisciplinary teams
