Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership and strategic direction for major geotechnical programmes and complex ground engineering projects
• Act as a recognised authority, setting standards and offering expert advice on challenging problems
• Lead technical governance to ensure quality, risk management, and professional excellence
• Build and maintain relationships with clients, industry bodies, and external stakeholders
• Develop long-term client strategies and pursue major opportunities, frameworks, and flagship projects
• Direct multidisciplinary teams across projects and regions, aligning resources with business needs
• Drive technical innovation across the business, including sustainability and digital delivery
• Mentor, coach, and sponsor senior staff; support succession planning and leadership development
• Shape the future direction of the geotechnical discipline within WSP and represent the firm externally

Key requirements

• Extensive experience leading complex geotechnical engineering programmes on high-profile projects
• Deep expertise in geotechnical engineering, engineering geology and ground engineering with specialist knowledge
• Experience acting as a technical authority providing governance and strategic direction
• Strong commercial awareness with a track record of winning work and growing client relationships
• Exceptional client-facing and stakeholder management skills with senior-level influence
• Proven ability to lead high-performing technical teams across multiple locations
• Experience shaping technical strategy and driving measurable improvements
• Active involvement in professional institutions or technical committees; Chartered status
