Chief Engineer

Chief Engineer (Electronics) – Permanent – Up to £73,000 – Worcester

FryerMiles are working with a specialist engineering business to recruit a Chief Engineer (Electronics) to join their team in Worcester.

The successful candidate will initially act as the principal hands-on Electronics Engineer, while developing and leading the company’s electronics capability. The role will provide technical leadership across high-integrity, safety-critical electronic projects, supporting projects from initial sales and bid activity through design, verification and certification.

Key Responsibilities:

• Act as the principal technical authority for electronics engineering across the business.
• Lead hands-on electronic architecture, design, analysis, verification and technical problem solving.
• Define and develop the company’s electronics engineering capability, including people, tools, processes and facilities.
• Recruit, develop and lead an electronics engineering team as the capability grows.
• Provide technical leadership and oversight across multiple electronic projects.
• Ensure projects achieve technical, quality, cost and delivery objectives.
• Ensure compliance with relevant safety-critical electronic standards, including DO-254.
• Develop and maintain electronic engineering processes and procedures.
• Identify, manage and mitigate technical risks and issues.
• Lead the technical aspects of bids, estimates and proposals for electronic projects.
• Support sales meetings, client presentations and the development of new business.
• Identify new electronic technologies, services and opportunities for developing company IP.

Essential Experience:

• Significant electronics engineering experience within high-integrity / safety-critical environments.
• Strong hands-on electronic architecture and design experience.
• Full lifecycle electronic development, verification and certification experience.
• Experience working to high-integrity standards, including DO-254 or equivalent.
• Experience managing the technical delivery of complex electronics projects.
• Previous experience in a senior technical leadership position.
• Experience with electronic development tools such as Altium.
• Experience with safety-critical engineering tools such as DOORS and Rhapsody.
• Strong technical risk management and problem-solving experience.
• Experience supporting bids, estimates and client presentations.
• Strong client and stakeholder management skills.
• Engineering or Technical Degree.
