Overview
As a Protection & Control Engineer in WSP’s UK Energy practice, you design protection and control systems for power transmission that support Net Zero goals. You’ll join a multidisciplinary team delivering large-scale transmission infrastructure, with opportunities to develop technically and professionally over the next decade. Responsibilities
- Design protection and control systems for electrical power transmission and distribution networks
- Produce detailed drawings, specs and design documentation using AutoCAD and ETAP
- Perform technical calculations to ensure reliability and performance of protection and control systems
- Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety and environmental guidelines
- Conduct site surveys and data gathering for design
- Collaborate with project managers, electrical engineers and construction teams
- Review and approve design changes and provide technical support during installation and commissioning
- Conduct design reviews and QA checks
- Stay updated on advancements in protection and control technology
Key requirements
- Proven experience in design of protection and control schemes
- Knowledge of Electrical Networks and Engineering standards
- Experience interpreting design-related technical documentation
- Experience with main suppliers’ substation control equipment (ABB, Hitachi, Siemens, GE)
- Experience with IEC 61850 and IEC 60870 protocols
- Desirable – Chartered engineer status or working towards
