Financial Controller

Overview

In this role you will lead the finance function across multiple entities within a professional services business in Edinburgh. You will work closely with senior leadership to drive performance, provide financial insight, and implement robust controls and reporting. The position blends hands-on financial management with strategic input to support commercial decisions and business growth. You’ll have a clear opportunity to shape the finance function and influence cross-functional partners while maintaining a practical, results-driven approach.

Responsibilities

• Lead the finance function across multiple group entities
• Produce monthly management accounts, forecasts, budgets & cashflow reporting
• Deliver commercial insight & financial analysis to support strategic decision-making
• Partner with operational leaders to improve profitability & business performance
• Maintain financial controls, balance sheet integrity & statutory compliance
• Manage year-end accounts, consolidations and audit processes
• Oversee payroll, treasury & investment reporting activities
• Manage relationships with auditors, banks & professional advisors
• Lead finance process improvements & system developments
• Manage & develop a small finance team

Key requirements

• Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
• Previous experience in a Financial Controller or similar leadership role
• Management accounting, forecasting and financial reporting experience
• Experience working across multiple entities and jurisdictions
• Analytical skills with ability to translate financial data into business insight
• Commercial mindset with the confidence to influence senior stakeholders
• Experience leading process improvements and finance transformation initiatives
• Knowledge of group consolidations, transfer pricing or foreign exchange considerations
• Experience managing or overseeing company investments, treasury activities or investment reporting
