Management Accounting Manager

Overview

In this role you will lead the management accounting function for a technology and research organisation based in London, driving accurate reporting and robust governance. You will manage a ~20-strong team, overseeing month-end close, P&L and balance sheet reporting, and executive reporting to support decision-making. You will partner across commercial finance and other functions to improve processes, controls and reporting capability, while navigating a complex funding and external scrutiny landscape. Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a management accounting function (~20 staff, including 5 direct reports)
• Manage month-end close and timely delivery of monthly management accounts
• Oversee P&L and balance sheet reporting with variance analysis and commentary
• Deliver executive-level reporting and develop management information and KPIs
• Collaborate with commercial finance and stakeholders to improve financial understanding and performance
• Maintain robust financial controls, governance frameworks and balance sheet reviews
• Support internal and external audit processes and explain accounting treatments
• Contribute to budgeting, forecasting and longer-term financial planning
• Manage reporting for grant funding, government stakeholders and external funders
• Support ERP platform optimisation and stabilisation
• Identify efficiency gains and simplify processes across finance
• Ensure compliance with governance and regulatory requirements in a high scrutiny environment

Key requirements

• Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
• Proven experience leading management accounting teams in complex organisations
• Experience managing layered teams of significant scale
• Strong technical accounting knowledge including FRS 102 and revenue recognition
• Extensive month-end, management reporting and balance sheet ownership experience
• Track record of maintaining strong financial controls and governance
• Experience in environments with external scrutiny, compliance requirements or reputational risk
• Strong stakeholder management across multiple functions
• Advanced Excel skills and experience with ERP systems and financial reporting tools
