Principal Solar Electrical Engineer

Overview

As a Principal Solar Electrical Engineer at AECOM, you will lead design and technical advisory on solar PV projects across the UK and international sites. You’ll join a growing Energy team and work on utility-scale and distributed generation systems, including NSIPs, rooftop, carport, floating, and ground-mounted PV with battery storage. You’ll deliver feasible designs, technical reports, and client-facing solutions while upholding safety and industry standards. Responsibilities

• Design solar PV systems using PVSol, PVSyst, PVCase, and other industry-standard software
• Produce design layouts, system specifications, cost estimates, and technical reports
• Conduct technical site surveys across the UK
• Attend client meetings and develop effective technical solutions
• Support commercial in technical submissions and tender documentation
• Uphold robust health and safety culture across the business
• Maintain knowledge of electrical standards, codes, and best practices
• Demonstrate technical excellence and deliver high-quality project outcomes
• Apply BS 7671 Wiring Regulations and IET Code of Practice for Solar PV Installations

Key requirements

• Proven design, specification, and/or construction experience in solar PV projects within consultancy, EPC, or developer environments
• Strong understanding of solar PV systems and electrical infrastructure
• Ability to prepare high-quality technical reports, specifications, and client-facing documentation
• Knowledge of industry standards, regulations, and best practices for solar PV installations
• Experience leading project teams and mentoring junior engineers
• Proven ability to manage client relationships and provide technical leadership
• Experience reviewing and approving engineering designs and deliverables
• Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to project sites
