Design Engineer – Electronic Security & Smart Building

Overview

In this role you will design and integrate electronic security and smart building systems for CCTV, access control and related infrastructure. You will support tender submissions, engage with clients, and ensure solutions meet technical, operational and commercial requirements. You will produce design documentation and ensure compliance with standards while contributing to value engineering. The position blends office design work with hands-on project delivery across security and BMS/PSIM domains, in London with a mix of remote work. You will help shape secure, integrated building tech for clients.

Responsibilities

• System design and engineering of electronic security: CCTV, access control, intruder detection and related infrastructure
• Develop integrated smart building solutions including security, ICT and building management systems
• Produce detailed design documentation: drawings, specifications, schematics, system architectures
• Ensure designs comply with standards, regulations and best practices
• Support value engineering and technical optimisation
• Provide technical input for tenders, bids and proposals
• Prepare technical descriptions, system designs and equipment schedules
• Assist with pricing and scope definition with commercial and project teams
• Review client specifications and translate into compliant technical solutions
• Provide engineering support during project delivery, installation and commissioning
• Review installation drawings and submittals; assist with testing, commissioning strategies and handover

Key requirements

• Strong knowledge of CCTV systems, access control and electronic security technologies
• Experience with smart buildings and integrated systems (security, ICT, BMS, PSIM)
• Understanding of networking principles (IP-based systems, VLANs, PoE, cybersecurity basics)
• Ability to interpret and produce technical drawings and specifications
