Senior Software Engineer

Overview

In this role you will help deliver high-quality software within the Operational and Regulatory Technology team for AJ Bell’s investment platform. You will mentor a cross-functional squad, steer architectural decisions and non-functional requirements, and drive delivery of scalable services. You’ll work across the stack on cloud-based solutions, modern web apps, and API-driven components to support performance and reliability. This is a hands-on, impact-focused position with a strong emphasis on Agile practices and continuous improvement. You will contribute to a culture that values collaboration, growth, and delivering value to customers.

Responsibilities

• Guide and mentor the team to design and deliver high quality products
• Consider architectural and non-functional requirements and collaborate to deliver
• Work across the technology stack in a cross-functional, Agile team
• Develop and maintain HTTP-based APIs and RESTful services
• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and test-driven development
• Deliver scalable, highly available middle-tier components and cloud-based solutions
• Familiarity with containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes) and AWS-based deployments
• Engage with front-end teams using modern JS frameworks (Angular/React/Vue) and backend services
• Communicate effectively with stakeholders and support continuous improvement

Key requirements

• Significant experience developing services and APIs with C#, .NET Core, Mongo and/or SQL (DDD, MVC)
• Strong web development background with Angular/React/VueJs
• Experience creating RESTful APIs with JSON
• Thorough understanding of CI/CD pipelines and TDD with various test frameworks
• Proven track record of scalable, highly available mid-tier components
• Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes for containerisation
• Experience building, deploying, and maintaining Cloud-based solutions on AWS
• Knowledge of Entity Framework Core and communication technologies (Web API, Google Protocol Buffers) and message queues (RabbitMQ, SQS)
• Excellent written and verbal communication; agile/SCRUM/SAFe experience
• E-commerce and/or financial services experience
