Financial Controller (FCA Regulatory Environment)

Overview

In this role you will lead the UK finance function within a FCA-regulated broking/trading environment, overseeing end-to-end accounting and governance for multiple entities. You will deliver timely management reporting and statutory accounting, while collaborating with senior stakeholders and the wider finance team. You’ll drive efficiency, process improvements, and support growth opportunities, including developing a team of assistant accountants. A focus on ICARA readiness is preferred for refining risk assessment processes.

Responsibilities

• Produce monthly management accounts (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow) for in-scope entities
• Review and challenge management accounts, schedules, and reports
• Perform balance sheet reconciliations with commentary and analysis
• Drive process improvements, automation, and stronger controls
• Ensure statutory reporting deadlines are met (annual accounts, tax filings)
• Manage the external audit process and prepare schedules for auditors
• Oversee end-to-end finance operations for in-scope entities
• Lead and develop a team of assistant accountants
• Assist the CFO in leading the UK finance function and identifying efficiency/growth opportunities
• Support ICARA-related improvements where exposure exists

Key requirements

• ACA / CIMA / ACCA professional qualification
• Strong technical financial experience, preferably in a complex global company
• Ability to produce and interpret complex financial information clearly for finance and non-finance audiences
• Deep understanding of financial results, including P&L drivers, balance sheet results, and key trends
