Mechanical Engineer

Overview

In this role you will support AECOM’s Scotland Water Team in delivering large-scale water and wastewater projects. You will design mechanical systems and liaise with multi-disciplinary teams to translate client needs into feasible designs and construction support. The role offers hybrid working and a chance to contribute to Scotland’s ambitious SR27 Enterprise programme, shaping sustainable, resilient water infrastructure. Responsibilities

• Prepare feasibility studies, outline and detailed design, and construction support
• Create plant layouts, mechanical equipment selections, and specifications (including WIMES data sheets, valve and equipment schedules, lifting strategies, headloss calculations, and P&IDs)
• Collaborate with civil, electrical, process, and mechanical engineers across locations
• Conduct site surveys and liaise with clients, contractors and suppliers
• Participate in design reviews (HAZOPs, HAZIDs, ALMs, SWIFTS)

Key requirements

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering
• Progress towards Chartered Engineer status (e.g., IMechE)
• Proven ability to deliver engineering designs, reports, drawings, specs, and calculations
• Hands-on experience with water and wastewater engineering projects
