The Opportunity
A fantastic opportunity is available for a Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon to join an award-winning independent practice, working across two friendly sister practices in County Durham and coastal Redcar.
This would be an excellent opportunity for a Vet with around 2+ years of small animal practice experience who is looking for greater clinical freedom while continuing to develop their skills within a supportive and close-knit team.
You’ll join a team of four Vets, alongside an experienced wider nursing and support team, with plenty of opportunity to develop particular clinical interests.
The practice is keen to support further development in areas such as laparoscopic surgery, internal medicine and postgraduate certificates, making this a great next step for a Vet who wants to continue progressing clinically.

As an independent practice, the team can offer genuine clinical autonomy and the freedom for Vets to manage their cases in the way they feel is best for their patients.
There is a strong focus on client and case continuity, allowing Vets to manage and follow through their own caseload while developing long-term relationships with clients and their pets.
The successful Vet will work across two sister practices, one based in County Durham and the other in coastal Redcar, giving plenty of variety while remaining part of the same supportive team.
Both practices are well equipped, with access to laparoscopic equipment, ultrasound, digital X-ray, dental X-ray, endoscopy, an in-house IDEXX laboratory, ECG, blood pressure monitoring and dedicated dental facilities.
The practice is also continuing to invest and expand, with plans including additional consultation rooms, a second operating theatre and expanded inpatient wards.
The Ideal Veterinary Surgeon
The successful candidate will be an RCVS-registered Veterinary Surgeon who:
- Ideally has 2+ years of small animal practice experience
- Is confident managing a varied first-opinion caseload
- Values clinical freedom and case continuity
- Enjoys working as part of a friendly, close-knit team
- Is keen to continue developing their medical and/or surgical skills
- Has an interest in further study or gaining a certificate
- Is passionate about providing excellent patient and client care

The Rota
- Full-time – 40 hours across 4 days, working across both sister practices
- 8:30am–6:30pm shifts with paid breaks
- 1 in 3 Saturday mornings – consults only, with time off in lieu
- No OOH, on-call or bank holidays
