JAVA DEVELOPER – NATIONAL SECURITY

THE ROLE
A leading technology organisation is expanding its National Security and Defence team and is looking for experienced Java Developers to join its growing software engineering community in Cheltenham/Gloucester.
You’ll work as part of a highly skilled Agile development team, delivering complex software solutions and large-scale applications for clients across the National Security and Government space.
This is a hands‑on development role with opportunities to work across modern software engineering practices, open‑source technologies and enterprise‑scale systems.
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING
- Designing and developing complex multi-tier applications
- Developing client and server-side software
- Working with Java and modern open‑source technologies
- Building scalable and resilient applications
- Taking ownership of software components from development through to implementation
- Writing unit and automated tests
- Supporting applications through transition into live service
- Working collaboratively within Agile delivery teams
- Contributing to technical design and engineering decisions
- ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE
- Strong commercial experience with Java
- Experience with modern Java frameworks and technologies
- Experience with Spring / Spring Boot
- Experience developing scalable and resilient applications
- Experience with REST APIs and/or microservices
- Experience working in an Agile environment
- Experience with TDD and/or Continuous Integration
- Strong software engineering fundamentals
- Active UKIC / DV clearance
- DESIRABLE TECHNOLOGIES
Experience with any of the following would be beneficial:
- Recent versions of Java
- Spring Core / MVC / Data / Boot / Cloud
- Microservices
- REST APIs
- Kafka / JMS / messaging
- NoSQL
- Docker
- Kubernetes / OpenShift
- JUnit / Mockito
- React / Node.js

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
We’re interested in speaking with UKIC/DV-cleared Java Developers and Software Engineers based in or around Cheltenham, Gloucester and the surrounding areas.
We’re particularly interested in engineers with around 3–8 years’ commercial experience, although more experienced candidates will also be considered.
