Contracts Manager – Ground Investigation

Our client is seeking an experienced Contracts Manager to lead the delivery of ground investigation projects from its regional office in Harrogate. This permanent leadership role would suit someone with a background in geology, geotechnical engineering or a related discipline who can combine people leadership, commercial awareness and hands‑on project oversight across a cross‑sector environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and develop a multidisciplinary team, creating a supportive, collaborative and high‑performing working environment
• Provide direction, coaching and mentoring to Project Managers and engineering teams
• Oversee the successful delivery of multiple ground investigation projects, ensuring they are completed safely, efficiently, on time and within budget
• Coordinate resources, support project planning and review technical outputs to maintain high standards of quality and compliance
• Build strong working relationships with clients, internal teams, technical specialists and other stakeholders
• Champion health, safety, environmental and quality standards through audits, reviews and continuous improvement initiatives
• Manage contract performance, cost control, forecasting, profitability and the effective use of operational resources
• Support recruitment, staff development, business development and the identification of new commercial opportunities

Job Requirements:

• Experience in a Contracts Manager, operational management or senior project delivery role within ground investigation or a related field
• Strong knowledge of geology, geotechnical engineering and ground investigation projects
• Proven ability to lead, develop and motivate multidisciplinary teams
• Understanding of contract management, cost control, forecasting and commercial performance
• Knowledge of health, safety, environmental and quality requirements within the construction, engineering or geotechnical sectors
• Excellent communication, relationship-building and stakeholder management skills
• Strong organisational and problem-solving abilities, with the confidence to manage competing priorities
• A collaborative, solutions-focused approach and a commitment to technical excellence
