The Opportunity

We are looking for a highly organised and proactive Business Support Officer to join our Business Support Finance Team. This is a key role, providing high-quality administrative and financial support to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of our service, including the accurate and timely processing of supplier invoices and supporting effective financial management across the Council. You will work closely with managers and colleagues across the service, supporting a wide range of finance-related activities, maintaining accurate records, and helping us deliver an efficient, customer-focused service.

What you’ll be doing

  • Process orders and invoices on the Council’s financial system.
  • Produce regular payment runs
  • Regularly review invoices awaiting approval to ensure prompt payment.
  • Provide all customers with a high standard of customer service to ensure a positive representation of the service
  • Undertake training and additional duties, in line with the general level of responsibility of the post, as additional administrative processes are added to the Business Finance menu
  • Ensure that all work is carried out in accordance with established procedures and financial regulations.

About you

  • Experience of providing financial administrative support within a local government or public sector environment
  • Excellent time management
  • Experience of using a financial system
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to plan, prioritise and organise a varied workload to achieve deadlines on a daily, weekly and monthly basis
  • Methodical and accurate with attention to detail
  • Ability to input data/keyboarding skills to a high degree of accuracy
  • Understanding of data protection issues and procedures
  • Have a problem solving, flexible, team approach to work
  • Able to work under pressure to meet demanding deadlines
