Join Us as a Sixth Form SEN Teacher in an SEN SchoolWe are working with a fantastic SEN school that has partnered with us for many years to support its recruitment. The school is seeking an enthusiastic Sixth Form SEN Teacher to join its post-16 team. It is looking for a strong, qualified teacher with QTS or QTLS and proven experience teaching sixth-form students with Autism, sensory needs, and additional complex learning difficulties. The successful teacher will help students develop academically while building their confidence, independence, employability, and essential life skills.
Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging, age-appropriate lessons for sixth-form students with a range of additional needs.
- Adapt teaching and learning activities to meet students’ individual education, health and care plan requirements.
- Demonstrate patience and the ability to support students with sensory challenges and emotional regulation.
- Foster effective communication, social interaction, independence, and preparation for adulthood.
- Support students with accredited learning, vocational programmes, employability skills, and work-related activities where appropriate.
- Work collaboratively with support staff, therapists, families, and external professionals.
- Help students prepare for their next steps, including further education, employment, supported internships, or independent living.
Qualifications/Experience
- You must have a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, as well as a PGCE or equivalent teaching qualification, to be eligible for this role.
- Additionally, you will need to have, or be eligible for, British QTS (Qualified Teacher Status), QTLS, or an equivalent qualification to be considered for this job.
- To be eligible for this position, you will also need proven classroom experience or training.
- Previous experience teaching sixth-form or post-16 students with Autism and complex learning needs is highly desirable.
