Overview
Our client is a well-established manufacturer of heavy-duty industrial machinery to the recycling and waste processing sector. Known for engineering excellence, quality and innovation in a demanding, fast-moving industry.
An opportunity has arisen for a Design Engineer to join a close-knit engineering function, working on the design and ongoing development of heavy-duty machinery.
Responsibilities
- Develop mechanical components and assemblies for industrial-scale equipment using 3D CAD software
- Turn concepts into detailed manufacturing drawings and models that meet relevant safety and quality standards
- Work closely with production, procurement and project colleagues to shape practical, cost-effective designs
- Support new products from initial concept right through to full-scale manufacture
- Take part in design reviews and risk assessments to validate new and revised designs
- Keep engineering documentation accurate and manage design changes through their lifecycle
- Help drive ongoing improvement across design and manufacturing processes
Criteria
- A relevant engineering qualification (degree, HND, HNC, or served apprenticeship)
- Around two years’ experience in a design engineering role, ideally within heavy machinery or industrial equipment
- Confident using 3D CAD packages such as SolidWorks or Inventor
- Solid grasp of manufacturing methods, materials and fabrication techniques
- Comfortable reading and producing detailed technical drawings
- A methodical, problem-solving mindset and strong team communication skills
- Exposure to hydraulic or heavy-duty drive systems, or a regulated manufacturing setting, would be an advantage
