Insight Global are seeking a Senior Software Developer for a leading global financial services organisation. This role will focus on designing, developing and maintaining enterprise-scale Java applications while taking ownership of delivery across the full software development lifecycle.
This position requires 5 days onsite per week in London for a 6-month initial contract with extensions through next year and is classified as Inside IR35.
The successful candidate will work across a variety of strategic initiatives including modernising legacy platforms, greenfield development, platform upgrades, and enhancing data architecture and data flows across critical business systems. This is a highly hands-on engineering position with daily coding responsibilities.

- Design, develop and maintain scalable Java-based applications
- Deliver high-quality software solutions across the full development lifecycle
- Support migration of legacy applications to modern platforms
- Contribute to greenfield development initiatives
- Enhance and optimise existing platforms and services
- Improve data strategies and data integration processes
- Collaborate closely with engineering and business stakeholders to deliver strategic technology initiatives
- Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code while contributing to best engineering practices
Must-Have Requirements Include:
- Strong backend software engineering experience within enterprise environments
- Demonstrable experience with Core Java (JDK 8+)
- Excellent understanding of Java fundamentals, object-oriented design, and design patterns
- Experience leveraging AI tools and technologies to support software development
- Strong knowledge of algorithms, design concepts, and data structures
- Proven debugging and troubleshooting capabilities within complex codebases
- Experience developing and consuming RESTful web services
- Strong experience designing and building microservices architectures
- Understanding of database technologies and relational database management systems
- Experience writing and analysing complex SQL queries, including multi-table joins and aggregate functions
- Ability to deliver solutions across the full software development lifecycle
Plusses Include:
- Experience with cloud technologies and Kubernetes deployments
- Previous involvement in legacy-to-modern platform migration projects
- Basic shell scripting knowledge
