Business Development Manager – Government

A leading professional services firm is seeking a strategic Business Development Manager to drive growth within its Government sector focus. Acting as a trusted adviser to senior stakeholders, the role will shape and deliver market strategy, client development, bids, marketing and profile-raising initiatives. The successful candidate will translate sector insight into commercially focused plans, oversee delivery and measure impact.

Key responsibilities

  • Advise and challenge senior stakeholders on Government sector strategy, opportunities and priorities.
  • Develop and deliver business development and marketing plans, managing budgets and maximising ROI.
  • Monitor financial performance, profitability, bid win/loss data and client activity, turning insights into actionable recommendations.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities, supporting pitches, bids and framework activity.
  • Work with client relationship teams to drive retention, cross-selling and revenue growth.
  • Lead targeted marketing, events, sponsorships, memberships, directories, CRM and internal communications.
  • Build strong relationships across business services teams and mentor junior colleagues where appropriate.

About the candidate

The ideal candidate will bring strong business development experience, ideally within professional services or a complex B2B environment. They will be highly organised, commercially minded and confident influencing senior stakeholders.

Essential skills and experience:

  • Strong strategic planning, stakeholder management and project delivery skills.
  • Experience managing multiple priorities, budgets and performance data.
  • CRM expertise, ideally InterAction or similar platforms.
  • Experience supporting bids, pitches and client development initiatives.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to demonstrate measurable commercial impact.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills.
  • Knowledge of the UK Government sector, public procurement or framework environment.
  • Experience across digital marketing, social media, website and email campaigns.
