Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Overview

As Senior Design Engineer you will own the design and development of advanced interconnect solutions for aerospace and defence applications. You’ll lead multidisciplinary efforts from concept to production and collaborate with manufacturing, quality and customers to meet stringent regulatory requirements. The role combines hands-on design with stakeholder engagement to deliver high-integrity cable assemblies, connectors and related components. Responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of interconnect solutions for aerospace and defence.
• Create 2D/3D CAD models, drawings and technical documents.
• Design connectors, contacts, insulators, cabling systems and latching mechanisms.
• Support product development programs from concept to production.
• Coordinate prototype manufacture and testing with internal teams and suppliers.
• Lead design reviews with presentations of calculations and results.
• Support New Product Introduction activities including tooling development.
• Provide technical input for existing products and drive improvements.
• Develop and execute validation and verification testing programs.
• Conduct risk assessments, FMEA and reliability analyses per AS9100.

Key requirements

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
• Minimum 5 years in aerospace, defence or highly regulated sectors.
• Strong 3D CAD experience, ideally SolidWorks.
• Knowledge of FEA/simulation tools (e.g., ANSYS).
• Understanding of materials including polymers/metals and coatings.
• Knowledge of electrical principles for cable and connector design.
• Experience from concept to market introduction.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills.
