Overview
As Senior Civil Engineer, you will lead highways and infrastructure design projects from feasibility through construction, ensuring compliance with UK standards. You will work closely with cross‑functional teams to deliver high‑quality designs, mentor junior staff, and manage delivery on time and within budget. This role focuses on technical delivery, client liaison, and design quality across active travel, junction improvements, and development‑led schemes. You will contribute to a collaborative, professional culture while shaping outcomes for local authorities and private sector clients.

Responsibilities
- Deliver design projects across feasibility, preliminary, detailed design and construction support stages
- Produce and check designs per UK standards (DMRB, Manual for Streets, LTN 1/20, TSRGD) and local specifications
- Lead or assist on highways schemes including junctions, active travel, bus priority, public realm, drainage, and development led infrastructure
- Oversee preparation of design drawings and reports using Autocad/Civil 3D; manage tender docs and technical reports
- Respond to technical queries during design/construction; liaise with contractors and site teams
- Support road safety audits, design reviews and technical approvals
- Manage tasks, programmes and budgets; liaise with clients, authorities, and stakeholders; support NEC3/NEC4 contracts
- Assist with change control and quality assurance processes
- Provide day‑to‑day technical guidance to graduates/junior engineers; review and mentor
- Promote good design practice and compliance with quality systems
Key requirements
- Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline
- Working toward Incorporated or Chartered Engineer status (IEng/CEng)
- Proven highways and infrastructure design experience in UK consultancy or local authority
- Good working knowledge of DMRB, Manual for Streets and LTN 1/20
- Experience delivering schemes for local authorities or development led projects
