Overview

In this role you will apply expert clinical psychology to adult autism assessments within a multidisciplinary neurodevelopmental service. You contribute advanced formulation, diagnostic decision-making and clear reporting to support timely, evidence-based pathways. You work with clinicians and service leaders to shape a high-quality, person-centred ASD service that aligns with NICE guidelines. You will improve access to assessment and signpost to relevant supports, fostering compassionate care and continuous service improvement. Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive autism assessments using DSM-5, NICE CG142 and ICD-11 criteria
  • Perform developmental history taking, clinical interviews and psychological formulation
  • Contribute to multidisciplinary diagnostic discussions and decisions
  • Produce clear diagnostic reports and give sensitive feedback to service users and carers
  • Develop personalised support plans and recommendations for adjustments across settings
  • Maintain accurate records and uphold safeguarding and governance standards

Key requirements

  • Significant post-qualification experience in adult neurodevelopmental, mental health, learning disability or related services
  • Experience conducting or contributing to adult ASD assessments within a multidisciplinary team
  • Strong formulation, diagnostic reasoning and report-writing skills
  • Current HCPC registration as a Practitioner Psychologist
  • Knowledge of NICE CG142, DSM-5 and ICD-11 diagnostic frameworks
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Compassionate, person-centred approach
  • Ability to work independently and with teams
  • ADOS-2, ADOS-G and/or ADI-R training or equivalent autism assessment training
  • Expertise in psychological formulation and diagnostic reporting
  • Experience with safeguarding, consent and Mental Capacity Act
