Overview
You will lead safety management on site and in administrative spaces, ensuring the safety management system (SMS) is applied through audits, meetings, and review processes. You will train and induct staff, raising company-wide health & safety awareness and responsibility. You will coordinate safety planning meetings and inspections, contributing to policy and procedure updates. You will support major rail projects in London, delivering regulatory compliance and safety leadership that drives project safety performance.
Responsibilities
- Ensure SMS compliance on site and in offices via periodic inspections, audits and meetings
- Provide information, training and task-specific safety guidance to personnel
- Induct and train staff into documented safety management systems
- Raise health & safety awareness across the company
- Coordinate internal health & safety planning meetings, inspections
- Contribute to review and revision of safety policies, plans, procedures and forms
- Facilitate production of health & safety performance information
- Support compliance with BS OHSAS 18001:2007
- Deliver training and presentations across all levels of the organization
- Build strong internal and external working relationships on safety matters
- Possess and maintain necessary rail-specific safety qualifications as applicable
Key requirements
- NEBOSH Diploma in Occupational Safety & Health or equivalent
- Minimum IOSH/CSCS card holder
- Qualified internal health & safety auditor with internal audit experience
- Lead Auditor status beneficial but not essential
- Understanding of BS OHSAS 18001:2007 and surveillance visits
- Working knowledge of current and impending health & safety legislation
- Strong presentation, written, analytical and IT skills
- Training and presentation experience across all organizational levels
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to educate/train at all levels
- Rail-specific safety experience: ~5 years in Construction/Civil engineering
- Personal track safety/LUCAS/Smartcard/CTRL licence as applicable
