Senior Buyer

Overview

In this Senior Buyer role, you will lead purchasing activities for a key value stream, driving on-time, in-full deliveries and cost improvements. You’ll manage supplier relationships, escalate production risks, and collaborate with planning to align with the production plan. The position supports safety-critical aerospace and defence projects, with a focus on reducing arrears and rationalising suppliers. This is a chance to shape procurement processes in a fast-paced, quality-driven environment.

Responsibilities

• Drive improvement of OTIF deliveries for your value stream by tracking KPIs
• Monitor shortages and liaise with planning
• Review and approve contract reviews for new orders
• Attend Tier 2 production meetings and own accountability
• Ensure timely purchasing requisitions and resolve arrears
• Coordinate with planning to align inbound products with the production plan
• Drive towards zero arrears for your value stream
• Facilitate the quarantine list for your value stream
• Be first line of escalation for late orders impacting production
• Rationalise supplier base with CM to reduce numbers
• Action supplier returns within 72 hours and meet 14-day target
• Provide training to team members as needed
• Manage turnaround of supplier returns
• Identify and manage supply chain risks via Risk Register and mitigations

Key requirements

• Natural leadership and training skills
• Operational purchasing experience
• Excellent administrative, organisational and communication skills
• Technical understanding of drawings and specifications
• Negotiation skills and experience
• Aerospace experience (preferable)
• Intermediate Excel skills (preferable)
