Legal Director – Residential Conveyancing – Gloucester

Overview

In this Legal Director role, you lead the residential conveyancing practice, setting its technical direction and ensuring compliant, commercially sound work. You will coach and develop lawyers, drive quality assurance and continuous improvement, and provide strategic oversight to a team of solicitors. The position partners with IT and Business Development to enhance delivery and growth, while representing the firm at industry events. This senior opportunity combines technical leadership with people development to shape the firm’s next growth phase.

Responsibilities

• Lead the technical direction of the residential conveyancing practice
• Ensure accuracy, compliance and commercial soundness of work
• Design and deliver a technical development pathway for lawyers and trainees
• Coach, mentor and raise capability across the business
• Oversee and transform quality assurance systems and culture of continuous improvement
• Provide strategic oversight, performance development and career support to lawyers
• Represent the firm at industry events and in trade body groups
• Collaborate with Business Development to expand sale and purchase work
• Partner with IT to enhance the case management system and client experience

Key requirements

• Minimum 6 years’ experience running a complex residential conveyancing caseload
• Strong technical expertise across sales, purchases and remortgages; leasehold and extensions; unregistered properties; SDLT requirements including reliefs and exemptions
• Proven ability to develop, coach and mentor team members
• Experience in senior management or strategic decision making (advantageous)
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Strong organisational and time management abilities
• Proactive, self-motivated with leadership to inspire others
